Barbaro opened in 2013, brought to life by the same team behind Southtown's beloved Monterey. We found a semi-historic brick building on McCullough Avenue and saw exactly what it could become: a neighborhood spot built around good pizza, honest drinks, and better company.
A Room That Feels Like It's Always Been Here
Exposed brick, low light, and a little bit of edge set the tone inside Barbaro. It's the kind of room that works whether you're grabbing a quick bite before a show or settling in for a long night with friends, casual enough for a Tuesday and special enough for a celebration.
Italian-Inspired, Never Predictable
Our menu leans Italian but doesn't take itself too seriously. Pizzas come topped with combinations you won't find everywhere else, small plates are made for sharing, and the bar program treats classic cocktails as a starting point, not a rulebook.
Eleven Years Into the Neighborhood
: More than a decade in, Barbaro has become part of the rhythm of Monte Vista. Regulars know the bartenders by name, weekend brunch has its own following, and happy hour still brings in the after-work crowd. We didn't set out to be a San Antonio institution. We just wanted to give the neighborhood a place worth walking to.
